“Whatever is the lot of humankind
I want to taste within my deepest self.
I want to seize the highest and the lowest,
to load its woe and bliss upon my breast,
and thus expand my single self titanically
and in the end go down with all the rest.”
Do you see the prophecy here?
Faust was written in 1808, and the Titanic sank in 1912!
That is so crazy! Maybe this is a literary prophesy! I have a literary blog too, so I appreciate someone who notices things like this!
I was tickled when I read the quote, thinking the author had done it on purpose as allegorical of humans headed to the grave. Then I realized that was impossible. Creeeeepy! And the book is pretty creepy anyway.
